Layering Game

Do you remember when it was considered an offense to have your shirt hanging out? If you do, then coming to terms with fashions obsession with layering might be hard. Growing up my mother always reminded me to tuck in my shirt when leaving the house and it was such a hassle! I just wanted to be free and less constricted, you know? Now, what used to be hidden in order to create a smooth silhouette is visible, showcasing a modern figure that is less about shape and more about edge. Well, the time for piling on clothing seems to be now (thanks winter), but I promise you that you don’t have to hide away under too many bulky things.

Layering is a great way to dress for the unpredictable weather patterns as well as for days when you’re on-the-go. If you don't need to get out of your car that much (mind the bare legs), then this particular outfit is perfect! I like how wearing multiple pieces of clothing gives me the ability to shift from a day in the office to a dinner night out with my friends; function and fashion! I also enjoy how layering lets me be creative with my wardrobe and it also means that I don’t have to neglect all of my warm weather clothing. The versatility is what makes the layering game so much fun! That day I was inspired by a beautiful sheer aubergine colored shirt dress that has a fluid, playful feeling to it. Though I’d love to just wear the dress by itself, the weather seems to call for something a littler warmer. So I pulled on this soft gray roll neck sweater and topped it off with a classic leather jacket. It’s nice that layering can be practical, but it’s also important to have fun with it, which is why I find combining different textures and colors to be so rewarding. These sharp black leather booties with cutout detailing perfect the look by adding a bit of toughness to this feminine ensemble. I think it's safe to say that the layering game is on point!
